We reported a few weeks ago that Revive.Wales had a plan to save Oakwood Theme Park after ASPRO announced it would not reopen for 2025 and made it’s future even more uncertain by removing a huge amount of rides from the park.
Unfortunately, Revive.Wales have now provided an update by saying that ASPRO’s senior leadership sent a short verbal communication saying ‘Oakwood is not for sale’.
In a response on their website Revive.Wales (now formerly named as Richens Leisure Parks, a limited company established in 2004 and located in Cornwall with Lionel Richens and Ivan Powis listed as on their company page) said that ASPRO hadn’t acknowledged the work gone in or the details of their proposal and, that after multiple attempts to chasing they were turned down.
Whilst Richen’s Leisure Parks state they plan to try and find an alternative location they also gave further details on what they had proposed for Oakwood which included a 150-room themed-hotel, redevelopment of the park, STEM educational centre and a fully-accessible park.
This news today leaves the future of Oakwood and, in particular, their wooden coaster ‘Megaphobia’ even more unknown. It’s been widely spotted by drone footage and urban explorers that a lot of rides at Oakwood have been removed and dismantled and so whilst ASPRO originally said Oakwood wouldn’t reopen for 2025 the future beyond 2025 looks very bleak.
It’s a massive shame that ASPRO didn’t accept this proposal and suggests they are more interested in the closure of the park than it’s future (unless they have something big planned, which is pretty unlikely)
