HUGE 2025 Ride Availability Update from Blackpool Pleasure Beach

Yesterday afternoon Blackpool Pleasure Beach updated their website with an update for the 2025 season containing some updates on rides and season closures. In this blog I’ll dive into the updates, what’s closing, what’s opening and what’s unknown. You can read the full article here

Pleasure Beach start their article by saying that 2025 is a transformation period following their announcement last year that they are focusing on evolution. That means this year some rides will be closed throughout the season, we’ll have a new addition and there’s some other sneak peaks too!

New for 2025 – Launch Pad (formerly Ice Blast)

The headline news for the 2025 season at Blackpool Pleasure Beach is the re-opening of Ice Blast, their S&S shot tower. After being closed throughout 2024 and undergoing a huge refurbishment including a new cylinder this ride will re-open in 2025 with more power than ever before and a new colour scheme to match it’s space theme.

Closed Rides for 2025

2025 will see 5 smaller rides closed. Pleasure Beach claim that these have some of their lowest throughput and point out that they have been run on reduced operating hours previously.

The rides not re-opening for 2025 are:

Eddie Stobart Convoy – A children’s car ride

Alpine Rallye – Another similar attraction to Eddie Stobart…sort of the junior ‘Grand Prix’ (which has now been demolished)

Thompson Carousel – I’m not evening going to explain what a carousel is!

Gallopers – The main carousel situated near Steeplechase

Red Arrows Skyforce The most surprising ride on this list, the Gerstlauer sky fly ride which (I believe) is the only one of it’s kind in the UK.

It’s always sad to see rides close but these aren’t permanent closures, just 2025 closures which suggests a desire to cut some staffing and operating costs this year whilst Pleasure Beach transforms. What is interesting is that all of these rides (apart from Skyforce) are children’s/family rides and with the removal of Grand Prix there are less rides for families this year at Pleasure Beach (but still tons!)

Wallace and Gromit Update

Fans of the Wallace and Gromit indoor ride have been asking if there will be a new scene for the incredible Vengeance Most Fowl film and in their update Pleasure Beach tell us to stay tuned! Will we see a new scene added to what is already the UK’s best dark ride?

Grand National

This iconic coaster will have some downtime this season whilst essential maintenance is carried out as the coaster turns 90 this year. This iconic roller coaster can be a bit uncomfortable these days so it’s great it’s getting some maintenance and hopefully we might even see it return to 4 train operations!

River Caves

River Caves opened briefly at the start of the 2024 season then closed and never re-opened. Pleasure Beach confirmed this wouldn’t re-open for the start of the season but have said they have an announcement on their plans for this ride very soon…given their phrasing I think we can expect a re-imagining of this ride rather than closure…who knows what that means but I’d be down for an entire indoor ride for Vengeance Most Foul!

My Thoughts

Lower ride availability is always sad to see and Pleasure Beach is one of my favourite UK parks with a fantastic line-up however, these are all smaller rides and there is still plenty for families at Pleasure Beach so if this helps them plan for the future than that’s exciting.

Even more exciting was how they finished their update:

We know this information sounds vague, and that’s because we have plans to formally announce our bigger pieces of news with a bang. However, we’ve seen lots of questions and rumours and so we wanted to be transparent about the closures, and reassure you that great things are coming to Pleasure Beach Resort in 2025 and beyond.

This ties into rumours that the future of Pleasure Beach is exciting and rumours have included things like the new gyro-swing, a possible new coaster and the removal of Skyforce. I can’t wait to see what Pleasure Beach announce and develop over the next few years and will certainly be making the trip up to Blackpool to visit many times in the years ahead!

Watch this space!

(P.S. Pleasure Beach…if you’re reading this…have a conversation with RMC…could you imagine an RMC tearing around amongst the other coasters at Pleasure Beach?!!!)
