Paultons Park Confirm Viking’s Details

Yesterday evening at their super-fan day and via a YouTube livestream Paultons Park confirmed details about their Vikings land coming to the park in 2026 and this looks fantastic! This new land opening in 2026 will be known as Valgard and will feature 3 rides, a restaurant and play area.

Where in the park will Vikings be?

Paultons Park had announced a Vikings land last year but with no details and work has already been happening on the site which is near the end of the park with Cobra with a large building already being built, footers being put in for a new coaster and other footings spotted on the Go Karts site.

The New Roller Coaster

As part of the event yesterday Paultons announced that Drakon would be joining the park’s line up in 2026, a Gerstlauer Euro-Fighter coaster with vertical lift hill. This coaster will be the park’s first to have inversions and will flip riders upside down twice during its layout which will also interact with Cobra.

Whilst a Euro-Fighter isn’t the most exciting coaster to be announced for a UK park (we have loads across the country) it’s a good fit for Paultons Park and makes sense given Cobra is already a Gerstlauer.

I’ve seen videos suggesting this will also have over-head restraints to help lower the height restriction. This isn’t confirmed by the park yet and personally, I’d always prefer lap bars on new coasters.

Cobra becomes Raven

As part of the new land Cobra will be rethemed to become Raven with updated trains, a new station (work on which has already begun) and a new colour scheme of brown and green.

A UK First Flat Ride

The park also confirmed they Vild Swing would be joining the line up which will be a UK-first Wild Swing by ART Engineering and this looks like a lot of fun too.

Magma to leave the park

Paultons also confirmed yesterday that Magma will be leaving the park as part of the new development but also confirmed it would not be leaving the UK…given their last ride to leave that area for the new development (Dragon) went to Funland in Hayling Island I wonder if this will go the same way?

Incredible Theming

We’ve already seen what Paultons Park can do with theming throughout the years and this is best illustrated by their new Ghostly Manor which looks even better than the concept art. The theming on the concept art for Vikings land (Valgard) looks incredible and I’m expecting this to be one of the best themed areas in the country when it opens.

One more thing…for 2027…

Taking a leaf from the Steve Jobs playbook Paultons also did a ‘just one more thing’ and teased a further Valgard development coming in 2027 which suggests some kind of water ride.

Some reports have suggested Mack footers have already been spotted on site and given the go-kart area is the only place to develop this (and isn’t too big) I wonder if we’ll see something like a Mack PowerSplash come to the park for 2027?

The Future of Paultons Looks Fantastic

Paultons is fast becoming a park I feel like I really need to visit and 2026 or 2027 will certainly be the year I visit for the first time. The park is going from strength-to-strength, focusing on immersive new areas, making their park sustainable through solar power and, at a time when Merlin are bringing in tacky IPs over unique themes I think Paultons are heading in the right direction, placing themselves on the ‘safe list’ of UK parks.

In my blog about the Cannonball Express a little while back I mentioned that I didn’t think Pleasurewood Hills had many years left before it closed but its fortune might have changed with today’s news. It has been announced that The Looping Group who have owned the park since 2011 have sold the park to […]

Will Thorpe Park be removing Rumba Rapids?

Rumba Rapids at Thorpe Park originally opened in 1987 as Thunder River and has been a staple at the park ever since, undergoing a rebrand to Ribera Rumba Rapids and eventually becoming known as Rumba Rapids as the sponsorship ended. However, over the last couple of years the ride has operated for less of the […]
