What is happening with Stealth at Thorpe Park?

Stealth is the worlds fastest accelerating coaster (regaining the title last year) and is an Intamin hydraulic launch coaster which opened in 2006 and is one of my favourite coaster in the UK but, since early April it’s been largely shut. So, what is happening with Stealth?

Downtime

Stealth opened with the 2025 season at Thorpe Park and was covered during Theme Park Worldwide’s Thorpe Park opening day vlog but then spent much of the first few weeks of the season with a lot of downtime and, since the 5th April it has been completely closed with no real update from Thorpe Park.

It suffered a number of rollbacks at the start of the season leading to a lot of speculation that there is an issue with the launch which also ties into Rita at Alton Towers also shutting. The most common rumour is that there is an issue with the pressure gauge.

When will Stealth reopen?

With no official statement either way from Thorpe Park it’s fair to suggest that no-one knows! As Thorpe Park haven’t given an announcement suggesting this is long-term or an expected reopening date I think it’s best to assume that they are waiting on a part with no known date of when it will arrive and be fixed.

What does the future of Stealth look like?

Whilst I think Thorpe Park will reopen Stealth this season I don’t think it will be long before we see the end of Stealth as hydraulic launch coasters are getting more difficult and expensive to maintain and we’ve already seen some across the world meet the end of their operating life.

If Universal Studios UK do end up building the UK’s tallest and fastest coaster with the rumoured Back to the Future coaster then I think Thorpe Park will try and out-do that and the space where Stealth is would be an ideal location and it would be a worthy replacement.

But there are some other options…

Thorpe Park could continue to spend the money maintaining and repairing Stealth, it’s a much-loved ride and that launch is one of the best in the world.

Alternatively they could look at giving Stealth the ‘Top Thrill 2’ treatment and tweak the layout slightly to use an LSM launch.

Watch this space!

As soon as we know more about when Stealth will re-open I’ll post an update!

Will Thorpe Park be removing Rumba Rapids?

Rumba Rapids at Thorpe Park originally opened in 1987 as Thunder River and has been a staple at the park ever since, undergoing a rebrand to Ribera Rumba Rapids and eventually becoming known as Rumba Rapids as the sponsorship ended. However, over the last couple of years the ride has operated for less of the […]
